Games this season between the Braves and Rockies have become back and forth affairs with neither team willing to give much nor be down for long. And this game was surely, no exception.
Through the first two innings the game was ruled by defence. Both teams put bat on ball, but were stymied by plays in the field and strike outs. In one series, Colin Foley of the Braves threw out a batter at first with a long throw from third and followed this with a put out at second two batters later.
And while Ian Harmon of the Rockies was able to hit a triple to start the 2nd, he was left there after a strike out, a walk and two more strike outs. The inning ended with Ian walking by himself back to his dugout to pick up his glove, and the score tied 0 to 0.
The scoring began in the Braves' half of the third with a triple by Colin, a walk, a double by Lucas, a single by will Speight, and another double by Matthew Pace, making the score Braves 4, Rockies 0. But the Rockies are a great team and the scored 3 runs at the turn with walks and a triple by Boden Walker, and a single by Ian. When the dust settled, the score was Braves 4, Rockies 3.
The fourth inning was reminiscent of the first two with strike outs and fielding plays for and against both teams.
The scoring barrage resumed with a single by Lucas, a double by Max Krpata and a double by Matthew Pace. The result was two more runs for the Braves. The Rockies' half saw two walks followed by a home run by Boden. The result was Braves 6, Rockies 6.
Hoping not to end in another tie, the Braves began the 6th inning with a single by will Posta, a double by Jack Ramde, consecutive singles by Colin and Declan Lewis, and finally a home run by Lucas Berman. The cushion was 11 to 6, Braves.
But in Braves vs. Rockies games this season, no cushion is firm enough. Each team is more than capable of fighting back. And with the Braves' starting pitcher having thrown his limit, and needing their reliever Colin to throw another day, the Braves used two relievers in the 6th to close down the Rockies. In the end, with Luicas Berman's fresh arm, the Braves were able to stop the hard hitting Rockies from scoring any more runs and preserved their 11 to 6 victory.
