MINORS: Dodgers 11 - Braves 2

5/31/2015

Saturday, May 30th
MINOR - Dodgers 11 - Braves 2

Pitch counts
BRAVES
Peter Jules 69
Lucas Berman 37
William Speight 50
DODGERS
Matt Poirier 51
Jalen Chu 50

Home Runs
Braves: Peter Jules (1) Dodgers: Matt Poirier (1)

Game Summary
Great game on a great night. Big hitting and great defensive plays by both teams defined the game. Dodger pitching made the difference.

Dodger Matt lead off the game with a first-pitch home run! The rookies then showed what they had when Maddox (moved along by a FC by Jeremiah) scored on Joel's first Minor League hit. The Braves came right back with a two-run homer by Peter and a single by Will.

In the later innings Dodgers Jeremiah hit a double and a single and Matt, Mr Chu, Narken, Anthony, and Henry all got singles. The Braves kept things interesting with great defense, as the Dodgers had to manufacture runs in ones and twos; highlights included another fielder's choice on hard-hitting Jeremiah, an out at first, and TWO great plays by Peter - a caught fly, and an UNASSISTED double play on a ground ball to short, with one runner tagged and a fraction of a second later a force out at second.

Dodgers pitching was not quite unhittable in the later innings, but combined with THREE Chu-to-Jeremiah plays (two from the mound, one all the way from third!) they sealed the deal.

Game Summary
A tense game - both the game and the weather (huge storms that just missed to the north; splatters of rain; a fragment of double rainbow; final sun!) were very exciting.

The game was a back and forth, with good pitching, hitting and fielding by both teams.

The first featured hard Reds hitting, but better Dodger defense.
After a lead-off walk, the Dodgers pulled a beautiful 6-3 double play, as Jaylend caught a rising line drive and fired to Jeremiah for the second out, and one pitch later Jeremiah picked up a grounder and beat the runner to the bag. 3 outs in two pitches! The Dodgers came back with a pair of 2-RBI triples by Jaylend and Jeremiah (them again!) to get ahead 4-0.

But the Reds were not done - after a quiet, pitching-dominated second, the Reds came back with TWO homers. Matthew turned an infield hit into a home run with aggressive base running, and then Thomas's single and Mark's HR blast to right tied the game.

The pitchers (and a nice bases-loaded force out at second by the Reds) dominated the fourth. In the fifth, Dodger pitching and a 1-3 defensive play kept the Reds quiet, but in the bottom of the inning, with the light dying, the Dodgers settled the game with 3 more scores, and walked off the victors of a great game.

Game Summary
The only things hotter than the weather Wednesday evening were the Cubs and Braves bats. The Cubs ultimately prevailed 13 to 9 in a four-inning see-saw battle.

The Braves jumped out to an early lead in a three-run top of the first that was highlighted by a two-run homer run by Peter. The Cubs came back strong in the bottom of the inning with five runs. Johnny drove in two with a double, while Trenton notched a two-run single.

The Braves evened the score in the top of the second, before the Cubs re-took the lead in the bottom of the inning on a solo homer by Myles.

The Braves knotted the score at 6-6 in the third, and then expanded the lead to 9-6 with a three-run top of the fourth.

The Cubs sealed the victory with a huge seven-run bottom of the fourth, which featured a two-run homer from Kiernan. The round-tripper was Kiernan's fourth in the past three games.

Game Summary:
Reds: Marc-single, Finn-single, Thomas-single
Rockies: Jaden-single, Derek-single, David-single, Micah-single.

Another great night for baseball.
Both teams struggled on the mound with 30 combined BB or HBP.
Both teams made some nice plays in the field when runners did get on base. The Reds catcher Marc made a nice catch of a high throw to tag out the Rockies runner at the plate.
Maybe the heat was a factor as both teams seemed a little lethargic. Still, good game played by both teams.
