The Bay State Tournament of Champions program is for serious players who wish to continue playing baseball in an inter-city league after the regular season. In the summer of 2006 NCLBL will send 4 teams to participate in the tournament, the A, B, C10, and C9 teams. The A team consists of the league's best players (mainly 12-year olds), the B team consists of the second-best major leaguers, the C10 team is for 10-year old major leaguers plus a few minor leaguers, and C9 is strictly for minor leaguers. The teams are selected by the coaches late in the regular season.

Summer league requires a greater time commitment than the regular season, since there are up to 4 games per week and more than half are held in other eastern Massachusetts cities. Each 2-week tournament round consists of 6 games and 2 POSSIBLE "trophy weekend" games (teams must qualify for the trophy weekend at the end of each round). There is also a possible championship round called the Tournament of Champions during late August. During the summer of 2006, the A team will play 3 rounds, the B team 2 rounds, the C10 team 2 rounds, and the C9 team 1 round with possibly a second.
